I press play but nothing happens.

As the title says, when I press play, nothing happens. No sound, and the needle doesn't move to the right. How do I fix this?

Has it ever worked? Is this a very fresh install of Audacity? Which Windows and where did you get the music from?

Well now it works. Just took a restart. But now when I try to record voice it's just a flat line, not picking up anything. Before it was recording but couldn't listen. ugh.

Look in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" and check that you have the correct recording device and playback device selected. Are you using a USB audio device?
Can you give us a bit more information about what your set-up is and what you are doing.
