Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Sometimes "cut" does not work. Why?

Post by MrDissonance » Thu Jun 02, 2011 5:34 pm

Sometimes highlighting a portion of a file and then clicking on CUT (scissors icon) works for me, sometimes it does not. Can anyone explain why this is? What am I doing wrong?

Probably using a very old version of Audacity.

Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported,
patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can
be unstable on newer computers.

Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here...

http://audacityteam.org/download/

You can install both audacity 1.2 and Audacity 1.3 on
the same computer, but only use one at a time.

Audacity 1.2 will not open projects made on Audacity 1.3.

If you use MP3 or some of the more modern audio
compression formats, get Lame and FFMpeg software
from the same web site. Do not use older software
or software from other web sites, even though they
may have the same names.

I'm using Audacity 1.2.6. If you go to audacity.sourceforge.net, you have a choice of downloading 2 versions: 1.2.6 or 1.3.13 (Beta). If 1.2.6 has known bugs, why is it still available?

I don't know if 1.2 is the reason for the problem, but it's still worth upgrading to 1.3.13 (even on an older XP machine).

why is it still available?
There are a number of features of Audacity that have their roots in Advanced Computer Technology with no view to the user experience. The reason 1.2 is still available is that there is no 2.0.
