Hi, I am a new user. I have a previously recorded MP3 file of a whole CD which was recorded as one track without any breaks. I have opened it in Audacity, with a view to splitting it into the original separate tracks. However, when I tried to play it back in Audacity to determine track positions, the whole thing played in about 1.2 seconds!! The file normally takes around an hour and 15 minutes to play. Can I change the time scale to reflect the proper length of the tracks?

The problem is almost certainly that the file is not an MP3. It may be a WMA file, or an AAC or some other format that is not supported by Audacity 1.2.

Audacity 1.3.13 supports many more file types with the assistance of "FFmpeg".

Many thanks for your response, Steve, you are absolutely correct. When I checked the file type (which I had assumed was MP£ as I have it stored amongst other MP3 files) I discovered that it was a WMA file!! I shall now try out your sggestion to resolve it.
