Songs won't open.

I took my computer to Circuit City and they saved all my songs on an extra hardrive. all the songs are there but they won't open. Where can I find them if they don't open in Audacity. I had to redownload Audacity. The 1.3.5 program said the files were recorded on the 1.2.4 version. I haven't been able to open the files. Please help.
