NOOBIE!! Problem with unwanted echo!!

I am new to recording w/ Audacity and am completely oblivious to computer programming, etc. I am getting an unwanted echo or reverb while doing voice recording w/ a Samson C01U usb mic!! Any suggestions for this NOOB!! Thanks!

I think you need to disable "record what you hear" (or equivalent) , in "Recording devices" ...

... the feedback echo is severe, that makes me think you are recording "what U hear" or "stereo mix" instead of the input you are actually recording from such as a microphone.

Assuming you are on Vista or 7, go to "Sound" in the Windows Control Panel, and click the "Recording" tab. Right-click over any input and check "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disabled Devices". Then right-click over the input you actually recording from and check "Set as Default Device". Right-click over it again, choose "Properties", then click the "Listen" tab to ensure "Listen to this device" is off.

You can have another problem as well. You can't listen to the computer speakers at the same time that you record your voice. What is feedback or howling in a normal rock band venue is delay or echo on a computer.
