I always make original recording then immediately (without editing anything save the file as filename_copy.aup) I use that to edit things.

Is is possible to save Too often while editing? Meaning saving/over-writing current file being worked on.? Could there be corruption doing this too often?

Friend got me paraoid about saving my Editing while working on a project. Friend said to save every 10 minutes. Probably depends on how big or how long the project is and what editing needs to be done.

Think I'm doing simple editing to make Audio CD's. I record a cassette tape, cut out long silence periods, add tracks and labels. But doing that can take some time especially if I have a 45 minute cassette. Sometimes I have to look or search for breaks/pauses in between songs.

Friend said it would be like editing a text document I save often because I don't to loose my thoughts or work.

Appreciate opinions or suggestions for how often to save work with Audacity. (over-writing current file being worked on)

Yes, and I know many people who do that, but to slightly different file names each time. Music1.aup, Music2.aup, Music3.aup. That gives you a way to reverse course if your show really takes a turn for the worse.

It's good to remember that Audacity Projects do not save UNDO.

Also, the AUP file isn't the show and it's not a sound file.

To get a real sound file, you need to Export one. File > Export > WAV Microsoft.....

You can't open up an AUP file in your Music CD burning program, QuickTime Player, or Windows Media, and you can't email one to anybody. You need to Export a sound file of your show.


Another common thing people do is open an original, say, interview sound file and keep saving changes on top of it. It may seem neat and orderly to do it that way, but one mistake and there is no show and no way to get one.
