Mono vs. Stereo

Post by ron9567611 » Thu May 26, 2011 6:45 am

I have an MP3 song that is in stereo, and when I import it into Audacity, there are two tracks. I want to put a recorded intro in front of the song. I have recorded the intro as a WAV file, and when I import it into Audacity, it is mono with one track. It seems as if when I cut and paste the MP3 to the end of the WAV, that I end up with a mono MP3 file. Is there a way to append the mono WAV file to the front of each of the left and right stereo tracks in the MP3, so that when I export the concatenated files as an MP3 that it will still be in stereo?

Click above the mute/solo buttons to left of the mono track and Edit > Duplicate. The duplicate goes to the bottom. You need the duplicate to be directly above or below the original, so if necessary click above the mute/solo buttons of the duplicate and drag it upwards.

Then click on the upper copy of the mono track in the track name (at the top of where you clicked and dragged). Choose "Make Stereo Track"). Now you can paste that new stereo track into the stereo MP3.
