Hi, my first post so forgive me if I make a Forum faux-pas. I've got Audacity 1.2.6 running on Xp.Things have been fine 'til now. I just tried to record from my turntable, I "Save project as", pressed the record button and a rhythmic grunting noise (with reverb) started. Both the input and output level meters were solid blocks of red and blue, jiggling at the far right edge. I checked all the connections: all good. Please advise.
Cheers, Dave.

How is the turntable connected to the computer? USB?

Hi Steve,
Yes, USB.

Do you have the USB option selected in "Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O" as the Recording device?
(note that the USB device must be connected before you open Audacity).

Result...joy! All working well now. Thanks for your help, Steve.
What is odd is that the setting for the recording device input had changed. It was set to Microsoft Sound Mapper - Input. As I said, things were working until today but I hadn't changed the setting; I wouldn't have known how to! Any thoughts?
Anyway, thanks again.
Cheers, Dave.

If you open Audacity when the USB device is not connected or not switched on, or just not recognised by Windows, then Audacity will not see it and will try to connect to a sound card that (according to Windows) is available.
