Rec'd -- Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device and the project sample rate settings.

After no issues and transferring a number of LPs/vinyls into MP3 via Audacity 1.2.6, commenced receiving the above message.

Using an Akai amp turntable which is connected to the PC via USB. I am using Acer Veriton L460 with with Vista Business o/s Service Pack 2. 2GB memory.

Audacity setting under "Edit -- Preferences" displays Playback Device as: Microsoft Sound Mapper - input

Closed Audacity & then re-opened it -- to no avail,

Nothing changed prior to receiving the error message. Everything worked before with no issues.

Is this a bug?

Do I download v 1.3? If so will I lose any of my .aup files?

The Audacity Projects, managed by the AUP files (AUPs are not sound files) will open up in higher versions of Audacity.

Past that we need to wait for one of the Windows elves.

Initial thought: has Microsoft by any chance uploaded newer versions of the sound-card device drivers?

I would certainly upgrade to version 1.3.13, which you can get from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows
(this may not fix the problem, but it's a step in the right direction).

You can open 1.2 projects in 1.3 but not the other way around.
