I have been using Audacity on my Dell Deminsion for a year without a problem.
Suddenly I am getting garbled audio when recording.
Let say I say something like Welcome to the Monday Minute
it will play back as [email protected]#$(@#([email protected]#me to the [email protected]#$y @#($&#@$ute
Tne normal wave file appears to be thin jagged lines up and down when the garbling takes place
WHAT is causing this
I am using Window XP
SoundBlaster LIve - 24 sound card
Audacity 1.2.4
In device manager I show soundblaster live 24 as active
in audacity's preferences I show soundblaster for both settings
but it won't play back the speaker
if I get it to playback it give me the garbeled text

It could be one of a number of things:
You could be running short of disk space on your C: drive - delete some files to make more space and defragment the drive.
You have some new program installed on your computer that is running in the background and hogging resources - close all non-essential programs and processes (using the Task Manager if necessary).
Windows Update is busy - wait until it has finished, or temporarily disable it.
An update to any anti-virus/adware program could be making it more aggressive and therefore causing a data bottleneck - try temporarily disabling any such programs to see if this is the problem.
You could have a virus/spyware/adware on your computer. - Do a complete system scan.
If you are recording from a USB turntable, it could be problems with the USB interface - try recording from a different source to see if you still have the problem.
