It's still quite possible to make Audacity 1.3 crash. While there are new features being tried out there are bound to be new bugs created along the way, but once you are aware of them they are usually quite easy to avoid and most will get fixed before the 1.4 release. But yes, crash recovery is much improved.
With Audacity 1.3 it is definitely worth having a good play with it to familiarise yourself with the program before starting any big important projects. I found that on Windows XP Audacity 1.3.4 was about the most stable.

Re: Audacity Crashed - recovered manually
Yes, that'w what it does - it actually asks if you want to recover the project or just delete the temporary files (without recovering the project.chris_elevate wrote:In 1.3 if it does crash the system will recover the files on the next start rather than having to use the recovery application?
So not only does it handle the recovery much better, it also cleans up after itself too.
And as Steve says 1.3.x is still quite capable of crashing - however I use it all the time, I have not used 1.2 for many, many months now. I am using 1.3.6 and I find that quite stable for what I use it for (mainly LP & tape transcriptions and some off-air FM recording.)

Re: Audacity Crashed - recovered manually
I've recently installed the 1.3.6 version on Linux and on my computer it is a bit too buggy, so I'll try building it from CVS (the very latest Audacity) and decide whether to stick with that or go back to 1.3.5 (which apart from a couple of small issues works well, though it misses the cool new features of 1.3.6).waxcylinder wrote:as Steve says 1.3.x is still quite capable of crashing - however I use it all the time, I have not used 1.2 for many, many months now. On Windows I have both 1.3.4 (very stable) and 1.3.6 (a few irritating bugs that I have to workaround but otherwise stable, and I like the extra features). I don't use 1.2 at all these days as I was continually looking for features that aren't there. For anyone that doesn't mind having to work around a few issues, Audacity 1.3 is very much better.
