Left and Right Channels Same in Stereo
I have a Vista laptop and a Behringer UCA202 USB I/O device. I can listen to the Behringer output and hear that it is in stereo (recording vinyl and tapes from stereo system). I have the recording channels set to 2(stereo) in the I/O preferences tab. The problem I have is that the left and right channels are exactly them same. It is recording two channels, but it's mono. How do I fix this. Thanks anyone who can help.

Re: Left and Right Channels Same in Stereo
As a servicing aid, you can launch Audacity and click once inside the red record meters and they will wake up and measure your incoming sound without you going into full record.
It will do that forever, so then you start the business of disconnecting the Left Performance from the Berringer and see what happens in Audacity. The choices are drop to zero, go down about half-way (6dB), or nothing.
Let us know.

Okay, it's only recording the left input. The red bars drop to zero when the left is unplugged. Nothing happens when the right is unplugged. The sound through the output headphones on the Behringer work like they're supposed to. Now where do I go with that info. Thanks.

We go to the instructions to find out where there is a Pan Control that's set wrong. You note right away that in spite of your original question, you are not recording Mono. You are recording Left twice. Different errors cause that.
The Phrase that Pays is "Pan Control." You start with the Berringer instructions (which I would have to download) and I'll dig in Audacity.

Another possibility. Did you close restart Audacity after you changed the settings from Mono to Stereo? Some Audacity preferences don't "stick" until you do that.

...Or you could have Windows Driver issues.
This is a portion of a thread from another forum.
==================================
If you haven't let windows install drivers yet I suggest doing that first. Simply follow the directions that came with the unit. It is easy, boot windows without the device plugged in. Then plug in the USB interface and windows should start the found new hardware dialog. Let it do its thing, online if it needs to to find the best drivers. Then install the ASIO driver pack from Behringer.
==================================
And this is where I wait for the Windows® people to chime in...

OK, hands? How many people think if we solve one, we'll solve the other?

Re: Left and Right Channels Same in Stereo
I couldn't find anything about pan control for the UCA202 on the Behringer website. I tried uninstalling from the device manager and reinstalling, with and without the Behringer Vista drivers. Still no stereo. Audacity is closed and restarted every time I try something new so I shouldn't be having a problem with things sticking. What else can I try? I've put an email in to Behringer, so maybe they'll have an answer for me on Monday. Thanks.

Re: Left and Right Channels Same in Stereo
I think this is going to be a driver problem. When I plug in the UCA202 the windows driver automatically installs and identifies it as an audio device. When I run the Behringer Vista driver installation it deletes the windows driver and installs the Behringer. In the process it becomes a USB device. Audacity needs it to be an audio device to be able to choose it in the I/O recording tab. So, if I uninstall the hardware from the device manager and plug it back in Windows moves it to the audio devices. What I didn't realize before was that it reverts to the Windows driver. When I try to update driver it tells me I already have the most up to date one. How do I install the Behringer Vista driver without moving it from audio devices to USB devices? I'm not sure if this will solve the problem, and it might be a question for Behringer, but since I've started this string...

At the risk of throwing mud in the game, Is this still available...
Windows Sound Recorder
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment
It would be interesting to find out if that records in "All Left" two-track, as well.
