I'm using Audacity to record vocals to a XP SP3 PC.

It works fine.

However, the USB headset I'm using as a microphone (Trust HS-4050), has an annoying habit of letting me hear everything (as it happens) that is being picked up by the mic. Even my shirt rubbing on the mic is being picked up and is audible on the headset 'phones in real time.

I'm looking for a way of disabling this phenomena.

Check the documentation for the headset and see if there is a way to disable the feature. If not, then you may need to use a conventional computer microphone/headset that plugs into the sound card.

Thanks for your response. Documentation for this product is next to useless. Barring any better ideas, I may have to use an alternative USB headset such as the Plantronics DSP 400 which works well for me on another machine.

You could look in the Windows Control Panel and see if there is a way to control the Trust HS-4050, perhaps in the Sounds and Audio devices section.

Thanks again, but the options in Control Panel are very sparse. Additionally, the headset is supplied without drivers the manufacturer relying on using XP's own offering.
