low db input signal
Hello,
I'm new to recording.
I'd like to record from my CDJ (DAP Darkshade DS-2500) with serato scratch so i can save my mixes and put them on the internet.
When I start to record is the waveform almost flat and de sound is below -18db (almost not to hear)
Only when i turn up the master button, the volume will rise......... The problem is that my ears and my neighbours start to crash!!
Has anybody a solution?
Thanks,
DJ Dock

Re: low db input signal
In Audacity, my set up is:
Audiohost: MME
Channel out: speakers Realtech high definition
Channel in: Microphone Realtech high definition
2 stereo canal
I'm not sure where my feed in is coming from, cause I use a serato system between my mixer and pc. The Serato is plugged in with USB connection.
Serato is also the program from where I play my audiofiles. I don't know wich is dominate, the soundcard on my computer or the serato soundcard?
Then there is the problem with my speakers (2 x 600 w speakers with each an inside amplifier)
I tryed to set the gain and the master wide open and turn down the volume of the speakers on the amplifier from the speakers, so there is a lot of output signal. Sadly, when i start to measure in audacity, it's still very low db. And when I turn on the volume on the speakers, the db rise in audacity (and I'm getting deaf again...)
I hope this was the info you're asking about. Hope to hear you soon.

Re: low db input signal
It looks like you are recording in Audacity through a built in computer microphone - is it a laptop computer?
Which exact version of Audacity are you using? (look in the Help menu > About Audacity)
If it is lower than 1.3.13, I'd recommend that you upgrade to 1.3.13 before we go further: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Re: low db input signal
It definitely sounds like you have Audacity recording from the laptop internal microphone.
What hardware are you using with Serato Scratch? For example, do you have a Rand SL3?
Why are you wanting to use Audacity for recording rather than recording with the Scratch software?

Re: low db input signal
I have a Serato Rane SL 01-08RoHS
When I'm recording in Serato it will safe as AIFF format (mac format) and my operating system is Vista. I'tryed to convert the format in cool edit but it still gives one large beep. Friends advise my to use audacity. Recording is new to me, so I try to find a smooth way to share my recordings and to record in the first place.
Already thanks for your help!

When you record in Serato, are you able to play back the recording in Serato?DJ Dock wrote:When I'm recording in Serato it will safe as AIFF format (mac format) and my operating system is Vista. I'tryed to convert the format in cool edit but it still gives one large beep.
Can you open the AIFF file in Serato and play it?
