Voice Muffled

My Father in Law recorded his life story on cassette. The problem is it's hard to understand. Can Audacity "clean" it up?

It may be possible to make some improvement - it depends what is wrong with it and how bad it is.

Thanks for your reply. By muffled I mean it sounds like he is too close to the mike or it's recorded (volume) too high. I hope that helps a little. I'm using XP.

Hmm... doesn't sound good - distortion is notoriously difficult to correct. You may be able to make some degree of improvement using the equalisation effect, but I don't hold out a lot of hope. If you can upload a short sample (preferably a few seconds in wav format), onto the internet (perhaps a file sharing site) and post a link, we could have a listen.
