distorted file

I've recorded something off the internet, I've saved it as an ogg vorbis file, however whenever I open it up again using audacity it sounds very distorted.

Grab a copy of Foobar2000 (It may not look like much, but it's an excellent audio player that plays just about anything, and it's free).
If the Ogg file sounds distorted when played in Foobar2000, then it's distorted and you will need to record it again (at a lower level). Use the WINDOWS MIXER (from the loudspeaker icon near the clock) to adjust the recording level.
