Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Unable to open project file

Post by Drew » Tue Apr 05, 2011 6:16 pm

Hey guys,

I seem to be getting a common problem but I cannot figure anyway to solve it.

In version 1.2 I get an error saying "The file you have selected is an Audacity Project Title" and in the 1.3 beta I get it suggesting importing it as a RAW file.

I have just retrieved it from a harddrive on another computer (where for some reason I deleted it and then emptied my recycle bin) and kept the worser versions of songs I have sung. I have the _data folder the .aup file and the .aup.bak file. Any help you can offer me would be greatly appreciated as I need this for school work... pretty much tomorrow.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Drew

P.S I also have a MP3 version (I didn't use lame) and a WAV version.

You may be stuck with the WAV and MP3 versions. Once you mess with the structure of an Audacity Project, it's very difficult to return to normal -- particularly in Audacity 1.2.

A great many forum complaints start: "I tried to move an Audacity Project between computers......"

And then something really awful happened.

In general, if you have an AUP file and a _DATA folder of the same name, you should be able to put them both on the desktop, right-click the AUP file > Open With > Audacity. The show should open. If it doesn't, then it's damaged and that's probably the end of the story.

You can't drag and drop an Audacity Project file. Use "File menu > Open".
