Playback

Hi,

Last week I tried to record a vocal while playing back a previously recorded beat track for timing. I chose the command to do so in Preferences but when I played the vocal track after recording, the beat track was mixed into it. I could see the sound waves lining up and there's no way to work with the vocal separately.

You should be able to isolate a vocal or any new track while playing previous tracks. Any idea what happened?

Thanks!

Don

Check your sound card settings. You were probably recording from "Stereo Mix" (What U Hear) rather than directly from the microphone input.

Where do I find the sound card settings? I thought I only had a line or mic option. Like I said I checked in Preferences and selected dubbing to hear the beat track, with that off all you can hear is what's being recorded.

I'm not at the computer to search for sound card now but will search for it tomorrow.

Thanks for the response.

Sound card settings are often to be found via an icon near the Time/Date on your Desktop.
If you can't find them there, look in the Windows Control Panel.

There's some pictures here that may help: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel
