Problem with F1

Post by greggor » Sun Mar 27, 2011 2:19 pm

Hi
I can't use F1 function (to point place i song). I tried to use another shorcut but does't work. What can I do to use this function? I need this function for a blind student who is not using the mouse.

I'm not clear what the question is.
The F1 key chooses the "Selection Tool" http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tools_Toolbar

I mean is that the selection by pressing the F1 key does not work in my version 1.2.6. My student is blind and uses only the keyboard and wants to learn to work with the program Audacity. It is not possible since the selection of which wants to cut part of it.
Sorry for my English.

It should work unless you have some other program running that sets the F1 key globally. If that is the case, try changing the key binding to something different (such as Ctrl+F1), or close the program that is interfering.

Just to be clear, the F1 key by itself does not select any of the audio, it just sets the current tool to the Selection Tool. To select a region of the current track you can use SHIFT+left/right cursor key to extend the region and Ctrl+Shift+cursor keys to reduce the selection.

It may be worth upgrading to the current Audacity 1.3 version as it has many more features available through the keyboard.

I installed version 1.3, and changed the shortcut to ctrl + alt + z. The problem is still the same. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? How, then it should be pointed anywhere in the song? I're trying to do this: Start (space) - Break (abbreviation P), and then try to mark the place a shortcut CTRL + ALT + with (check).
Is something wrong?

Space => Play
P => Pause

What do you want to do next?
Note that while in "Pause" mode, most Audacity functions are unavailable. For most functions you need to "Stop".

To "Stop" at a specific place during playback:
Space => Play
Shift+A => Stop and place cursor.

Are you trying to mark particular points in the Audio track?

Audacity doesn't support markers as such (ones that you can place on the track itself) - but you can do similar by using labels:

1) To mark the current playing or recrding position use CTRL+M

2) To mark the current cursor position use CTRL+B

It does work in 1.2 (I just tested) but do yourself a big favour and upgrade to 1.3 where labelling is handled much better. 1.3.12 is the current Beta, due to be replaced with 1.3.13 next week. You can get 1.3 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

See this page on label tracks from the 1.3 manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Label_Tracks
