Waveform only recording when PFL is on.
Hi there,
Im using a Numark Omni Control USB mixing system and im trying to record my mixes from traktor using Audacity. The problem i seem to be having is that the waveform only works or records sound when the PLF (Pre-Fade Listen) button on the mixer is on. It just reccords a flat line when it is off. I only want to use the PLF button for the other track im going to be mixing into the first one when it comes through my headphones but it picks this up on the waveform on audacity and doesnt record any sound without it being on. Im not sure its if its to do with the input or output i have on my preferences on audacity? Im using a twin Phono to 3.5mm Stereo Jack lead from the output of the mixer into the mic input on my laptop to record. I just want to make sure this is set up correct and what i need to do so i can record without the PLF button being on.
Many thanks
Liz

Re: Waveform only recording when PFL is on.
That may be the first problem. Many Windows machines will not let you apply a Stereo High Level show to the sensitive, mono Mic-In. Some laptops have a Stereo Line-In and some laptops allow you to switch between Mono and Stereo. Most don't. For them there is the UCA-202 USB adapter.Im using a twin Phono to 3.5mm Stereo Jack lead from the output of the mixer into the mic input on my laptop to record.

Without downloading and digging through the instruction book, what do the two RCA outputs on the mixer do, Output1 and Output 2? Is one control-room-listen, by any chance?

The outputs are just output 1 and output 2, One of my outputs are for my speakers and then im using the twin Phono to 3.5mm Stereo Jack lead into the mic input on laptop. Do you think if i get UCA-202 USB adapter i will be able to record my music on audacity with the PLF button being switched on the mixer?

Check the manual.lizc wrote:The outputs are just output 1 and output 2
Output 2 is only for monitoring.

Re: Waveform only recording when PFL is on.
Thanks Steve, Ive put the twin Phono to 3.5mm Stereo Jack lead into Output 1 on the mixer instead of output 2 now and the wave form is working on audacity and not picking up the PLF now on the other track im mixing so that's sorted. However the speaker's arent working on output 2 now without the PFL being on so will i need a UCA-202 USB adapter for that? I can play the music through my laptop speakers but there's a second delay on the sound when recording with audacity?
Re: Waveform only recording when PFL is on.
The speakers should be connected to Output 1 and the USB output should be connected to the computer.
The Numark Omni Control USB mixing system does not (officially) support recording with the supplied software. It is designed for live mixing rather than recording.
As a workaround to allow recording you could use a splitter cable from output 1 as suggested here: http://www.native-instruments.com/forum ... p?p=760522

Re: Waveform only recording when PFL is on.
I think that I'd try a (much cheaper) splitter cable first and only resort to more expensive solutions if a simple splitter cable is inadequate. As long as you check what sort of plug each piece of equipment requires a local music shop should be able to help you with the correct cable.
