Is 16000 a good rate for Ringtones?

Post by Erik_B » Thu Jul 24, 2008 1:07 am

Hi,

I'm terribly new to Audacity so please bear with me. I just installed v1.2.6 today and have been trying to convert an MP3 stereo music file to a ringtone for my cel. phone. Before I found this forum I was reading a "How to use Audacity" thread (from 2005) at HowardForums link. I have been following those directions but the song sounds incredibly slow and bogged down at 16000. Is there a good tutorial for making ringtones? Thank you so much. :)

I dunno if mpeg2 is functionally = mpeg3 (which is what you're using), but in my case, 16000 is the bare minimum for audio. My case involves encoding video and audio using mpeg2 encoders for broadcast through satellites. Try doubling the rate.
