About half the time I can get the paste button (or pressing ctrl-v) to work when the music file is completely zoomed out

Never can I zoom in to copy and paste, the paste button grays itself out and will not work (neither will ctrl-v)

Does anyone know:

why this is?
a potential solution?

Audacity 1.2 is no longer support, patched, corrected or updated and hasn't been for a long time. Download and install Audacity 1.3.12 from here...

... and use that. You can install both versions safely, but you may only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2.

If you use Lame or FFMpeg, you need to get fresh versions from that same web site. Do Not use old software.

Paste will only work when Audacity is stopped (not Paused).
Upgrading to 1.3.12 as Koz suggested is highly recommended.
