displaying titles and artists on radio
I use windows xp on my desktop PC. I am trying to make a CD of some of my favorite music that I am recording using Audacity. When I record a song I export it to MP3 and then get a popup menu that allows me to enter the title of the song, the artist, and other data. However, when I burn the file to the CD the music plays OK but the display on the radio shows only "Track Number 1" (or the track number of the particular song). How can I get it to show "title" and "artist" (those are the only things I need other than the music)?
Re: displaying titles and artists on radio
You can only do that if your CD burning device and the CD burning software supports "CD Text".
If they do, then use the CD Text option in the CD burning software to add the required text.

Re: displaying titles and artists on radio
Steve,
Thanks for your help. I don't know what the CD Burning device is that is in my computer nor do I know the software.
I have previously copied songs from purchased CDs, saved them on my hard drive and then copied and pasted the files to my D drive. When I do so Window's Media Player pops up and a CD writing wizzard appears, I insert a blank CD in the D drive and the song is copied to the new CD. When I play the CD made in this manner in my car the title and artist appears with each song. Thus, I assume my CD burining device and software have the CD Text capability. I don't see any option anywhere in that process that refers to supporting CD text. How can I determine whether or not te device or software supports CD text? It certainly appears to from my experience noted above.
The songs I am copy now from radio are primarily from old recordings (Nat King Cole, Glenn Miller, etc) that were recorded on 78 rpm record before they had text capability. Thus, I am not sure they are being broadcast with the text. Some are from SeriousXM and when coming from the radio broadcast do show a text (and it displays on my radio when listing to the broadcast. However, the recoded version shows nothing but "track number."
Is my problem that I am not recording the text when recording the audio with Audacity or is the text being broadcast on a different track and not being recorded? If the latter, why doesn't it pick up the text information that I have entered manually when exporting the file to MP3?
I would appreciate any help you could give me.
Thanks again,
Tom

You're using Windows Media Player as your CD burning software.atomnelson wrote: When I do so Window's Media Player pops up and a CD writing wizzard appears,
Do those CDs play in other CD players?atomnelson wrote: When I play the CD made in this manner in my car the title and artist appears with each song.
It sounds like you are making "data CDs" rather than "audio CDs".
Some CD players will play data CDs, but many CD players do not.

Re: displaying titles and artists on radio
Steve,
I’ve been working on this all week (off and on) and don’t believe that Audacity is recording anything but the stereo music (2 tracks). I have two files for music on my PC (My Music: Audacity and My Music: I Pod). When I place the cursor on a tune listed in the “My Music: I Pod file” I get a box that lists the following: Artist; Album Title; Year; Track No; Duration; Type; Bit Rate; Protection; and Size.
When I place the cursor on a tune listed in the “My Music: Audacity” file I get a box that only lists the following: Artist; Duration; Type; Bit Rate; Protection; Size. (In other words, the album title, and year are not listed. The artist is only listed if I have entered the title and artist in the “Save As” box when I am saving the file. When playing music that was copied from the "My Music: I Pod file" both the title and artist display on my car radio but when playing music that was copied from the "My Music: Audacity" neither the title or artist display on my car radio.
All files show as “MP3 sound” files.
I have been using the “edit the ID3 tags” option ID3v2 (the default option).
When I save a file I highlight the song after it is recorded on a new project, then I copy, the I open a new file and paste the song to the new file, I export to MP3, I enter title and artist in the “Save MP3 file as:”, I click on “Save”
The “Type” in both files is “MP3 Sound”
Regardless on how I vary the steps (for example change ID3 tags option to IDv1 or save without entering the title or the artist) I never get anything to display on my radio except the Track number (even when I edit the title in the file name).
Bottom line is I don’t believe the Audacity is recording the title or the artist. Any other ideas or software you could recommend that will no so?
Thanks,
Tom

Re: displaying titles and artists on radio
I think the problem can be easily resolved, but at the moment there's some important parts of the picture that I'm missing, so hopefully you can bare with me and fill in some of the missing pieces.
Why do you do that?
Do you have multiple songs in the recording?
Why are you exporting as MP3 rather than WAV?
If you put the CD that you have made into your computer and open it with the File Explorer (so that you can see the contents of the CD), what do you see?
Are there MP3 files on the CD or CDA files?
You mean that you click on "File menu > New" (opens a new Project), then copy and paste the song into the new project?atomnelson wrote: When I save a file I highlight the song after it is recorded on a new project, then I copy, the I open a new file and paste the song to the new file
