ITU-T mu law newbee question

Posted: Fri Mar 11, 2011 9:34 pm
Hello,
Please excuse the newbee question.
Is there a way to get Audacity to record .wav files in the ITU-T mu law 8Khz/8bit format?
I need to record messages for use with a Cisco callmanager.
Thanks VERY much for any assistance.

Audacity never records in less than 16-bit PCM quality.

If you want to encode in compliant G.711 U-/A-Law 8 kHz/8-bit that Cisco applications will understand, you have to add SoX to your computer then use Audacity 1.3.12 Beta. Set the project rate bottom left of the Audacity window to 8000 Hz then use File > Export, choose (external program) and issue a command to SoX. See this topic http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 71#p132079 for details.
