TROUBLE DOWNLOADING LAME .exe FILE

I just downloaded Audacity onto my school computer (Windows XP). When I click on "Lame v3.98.3 for Audacity on Windows.exe" on the download page, I got an error message saying that the setup files were corrupt. Now, I get a weird antivirus message about Basine-C (a trojan). Is there any other way to download the LAME mP3 converter file?

Sort that out first.

Your computer anti-virus program is fully up to date?
Run a full system scan - the one that you have to leave running overnight.

Steve,

Thanks for your quick reply. My virus definitions are up to date, and a full scan had (and has) been done. No problems to report.

I tried again to download the LAME plug-in, and I'm back to the original error message. I get as far as choosing to run the .exe file, and then I get this message: "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a copy of the new program." New program?

I'm trying to download using Internet Explorer. Should I use Firefox, instead, perhaps?

My firewall blocks the file as well and shows it as a Basine-C (Trojan). Interesting.

Steve,

Well, I tried it again, and I still get the corrupted file message. Is there no other way to download this?

What anti-virus and firewall programs do you have running?

Symantec Endpoint Protection and Webroot Spy Sweeper Enterprise. Does that also cover the firewall software?

It all worked on my other school's computer. I went ahead and emailed to myself the LAME folder of files from that computer and saved them onto this computer, but there was nothing of substance in the folder that will make it all work.

If you are trying to download on a school computer via their internet connection then there is almost certainly a firewall between the computer and the Internet. Schools frequently have very restrictive Internet filtering and it is very likely that a school network connection would prevent you from downloading Lame. The school network security is also likely to rip out Lame from e-mail attachments. If you want to install it on a school computer you will probably need to speak to the school's IT person/department.
