mp3 export

Post by catstell » Thu Mar 03, 2011 11:09 pm

ive recorded a cassette into audacity, selected a song and exported it as an mp3. when i choose "export selection as mp3" a dialogue appeared for me to input the track number, name, album title, year, genre.., but on selecting the next song, or indeed, anything else this dialogue does not again appear and the exported mp3 simply carries the same track number as the first, i.e. 1. how can i get this dialgoue to appear every time i export selection as mp3?

also is it possible to just split an section of audio without it putting the selection onto another track - actually not only does it do this but it creates 2 extra superfluous tracks.
frustrated.

I rarely use Audacity 1.2, but in Audacity 1.3.12 (which I highly recommend) you can open the "Metadata Editor" any time you like from the File menu and update as appropriate.

In Audacity 1.3.12, yes it is. I'm not sure if 1.2.6 does that or not, but perhaps not.

You can get Audacity 1.3.12 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

I tried to export from audacity to an mp3 and Audacity says it does not export to MP3 directly, but uses the LAME library to handle MP3 encoding. You must obtain lame_enc.dll separately by downloading the Lame MP3 encoder, then locate the file for audacity. Does anyone know where it is safe to get this encoder?

Yes, follow the links in the main Audacity web site.
I would highly recommend that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 before you install Lame.
