Audacity Forum

I'm sure there's a simple answer to this one. I have a mix recorded on with Audacity. It's 120 minutes long and I'd like to put it on a cd but the cd will only take 90 mins or is it 60 mins? Anyway, my mixes are too long to put on cd. Is there anyway of compressing them or something? Oh, and by the way, I'm rubbish with technology.

78 minutes, and no. A Music CD has a strict, standard, high quality format and that's the end of the story.

You can split your show in half and make two Music CDs, or you can try to make a non-Music CD -- a Data CD (like a little flat hard drive) which will take anything, even compressed music like MP3. Those will hold anything you can cram into 700MB, but will not play in most strict Music CD players (like the one in my older truck). They will play in most computers and a lot of newer CD players that "know" what a Data CD and MP3 music are.

Authoring and burning happen outside Audacity.

Thanks for the reply. That's a shame. I'm sure someone told me something along the lines of of ticking the box marked data instead of audio it can be done. I'll have a word with him. And once again thanks.

You can make a data CD with MP3 or other compressed audio files and play those files on a computer, but the CD will not be a normal audio CD and it will not play on most CD players.
