The following is a transaction with the Realtek people, from me. Please tell me what I should have said- I don't believe what they said- it worked once before.
Dear Sir,
Do you mean you want to record what you hear from your USB audio ?
If yes, we are sorry we don't support any "USB" audio because they are not Realtek products.
If no, can you describe more about your issue ?
Best regards,
PC-Tech

主旨: Can't read USB
I'm using Vista Home Basic. I have a Behringer UFO device. I had it working once, using Audacity current version. I got the beta version of Audacity, and discovered that now I could only select the Microsoft Sound Mapper- my "Stereo Mix" Realtek High Definition Audio driver wouldn't work anymore. After reading some bloggery on other sites, I became worried that MS Sound Mapper might not handle stereo well.
So, I thought I would update the Realtek driver. Did that, and discovered that now I couldn't even select it in AUdacity- it wasn't in the drop-down selection box. I updated the Realtek driver again, and now I have it as seen by the Device Manager and Audacity's drop-down box, but now nothing works. I can hear sound from earbuds monitoring the Behringer device, so I know it is delivering to the USB port, but it is as though "Stereo Mix" no longer knows about USB input.
How can I make sure that "Stereo Mix" wants to get its input from my USB port?
What do I do next?
Realtek won't accept USB?

Re: Realtek won't accept USB?
The Behringer UFO device is a completely separate device from the RealTek sound card.
You can set Audacity to record from the RealTek device OR from the Behringer device, but not both at the same time.
You can set Audacity to play back on the RealTek device OR on the Behringer device, but not both at the same time.
Features that are available for the RealTek sound card have nothing to do with the Behringer device, and vice verse.
The recording and playback devices are set in Audacity 1.2.x in "Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O"

Re: Realtek won't accept USB?
As Steve says - but it is possible to use both sound cards.
I use my external USB sound card as the input device, but target the output for monitoring onto the PC's onboard soundcard.

Re: Realtek won't accept USB?
Slippery words. You're using the Input side of one device and the output side of the other. What users invariably want to do is record from both. That you can't do.
