sound distortion
i use audacity 1.2.6 with an ION TTUSB with a Technics cartridge with windows xp. I am getting distortion and cant figure out how to fix the problem. Nothing i have read online has worked for me. Some of the potential solutions i read about ask you to use features in the effects tab. However, my effects options are all grayed out so i have none of those options currently available to me. How do i get all of those options in the effects tab to be available to me? And more importantly, how do i fix this distortion/ clipping problem?
Thanks,
Mark
Thanks,
Mark

Re: sound distortion
In Audacity 1.2, you had to select some audio (or all of it) to get the Effects to work. Koz

Koz,
thanks for the quick reply. So what do you suggest i do to try to eliminate distortion and clipping?

Re: sound distortion
That was just the easy answer. Yes, you should be solving the problems at the beginning.
There's no shortage of problems with ION turntables. They're not designed to be left to your grandson. They're designed to play the last record and then fall to dust.

See this article in the Wiki: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/USB_turntables
I would recommend you to upgrade to the latest Audacity 1.3.12 (and look out for 1.3.1.3 which is due out soon) - you can get it from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Re: sound distortion
Can you point to a sound clip on-line somewhere that has the voice you want to create? I have no idea who Fred is.
You can use Effect > Leveler at the various different settings to create straight clipping voice distortion. Many other vocal effects use Vocoder or AutoTune effects. It depends on what you want.
