I am using audacity 1.2.6 with an Ion USB turntable to capture music from lps. My operating system is windows XP. This has worked well on many past occasions. Now, after some or many minutes of seemingly trouble-free recording I have been getting a sudden onset of loud and continuous static, audible on my computer speakers and visible on the audacity screen as a solid, continuous full-amplitude read-out.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled audacity with no change in result. I have made no hardware change since successful episodes except for the addition of a webcam. Disconnecting the webcam has not helped. Any suggestions?

Re: static when playing an LP
The problem is most likely with the USB connection.
Avoid using USB hubs, try using a different USB socket if you have one.
