Input selector greyed out
I have an M-Audio fast track pro external soundcard & the Audacity input selector is greyed out . How do I fix this
Re: Input selector greyed out
Are you running Audacity on Windows Vista? In Vista, the Input selector is always greyed out.
In Vista, you have to select the Input from Audacity's preferences. See the following page on the Audacity Wiki for more information:

Re: Input selector greyed out
Thanks for your reply.
I have a new PC running XP with the service pak 3 upgrade.
My previous PC had XP but only had service pak 2. I had a soundblaster live internal sound card - i had no problems with the audacity input source selector with that set up
Could it be settings somewhere with the external M-audio Fast Track Pro sound card or settings on the PC sound ?
I believe that the M-audio external sound card drivers would have disabled the Real Tek on board sound drivers etc.
Await your reply.

Re: Input selector greyed out
Go to "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" and try setting the Record and Playback devices there.

Re: Input selector greyed out
I just installed a new Fast Track Pro, and I am seeing the same thing. I'm guessing the driver from M-Audio has somehow disabled this.
I can select the "Fast Track Pro In 1/2" using "Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O", as suggested above; and that seems to work with a microphone plugged into the Fast Track Pro. But I wonder if I will be missing some other possibilities?

Re: Input selector greyed out
Not all audio device drivers support Audacities input selector, however, on XP selecting the input explicitly from Preferences gets round this limitation.
