I have XP and Audacity 1.2.6

The program allows me to import audio tracks, but when it does something screws up. Either it compresses the entire track to about 0.14 seconds, it it only imports 0.14 seconds. Either way, all I end up with is a short high-pitched "bloop" noise.

Can somebody please help me, because I'm getting mad, and my blood pressure is getting really high lol :x

I'm having this problem too, and can't find any place that has a solution.
Some songs work, a few I've recorded myself, but only tracks that have one channels. And even most of those don't work.

You are almost certainly trying to import a file type that Audacity does not support . Audacity Supports WAV, MP3, OGG and FLAC & MP2 in 1.3.

If this is the case you have two basic options:

1. find and use some converter software to convert your file to a type that Audacity supports

2. play the file in any music software that supports that particular file format and record it in Audacity.

<<<well it deffinately is WAV, so i'm still confused...>>>

Let's try something. Pull down the super short Piano Trill sound clip from here and see what happens with that...

...Does it import, edit, and export OK?

This is fun when a number of people with slightly different symptoms pile into the same thread. We have to keep it all straight. You in particular may have a sound file that ends in .wav, but it could be damaged or it's possible it's not a a Microsoft WAV file at all.

<<<a few I've recorded myself>>>

There, in one phrase, you have just separated yourself from the rest of the thread.

Audacity wakes up from First Birthday in Mono. You are always supposed to change the settings to stereo for most work. We hope the program fathers change that in the next version.

However, are your live capture sound clips stereo and they refuse to play in Stereo Audacity? Did you Export As WAV to get the sound clip that refuses to play? Did you get an error message?
