Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Hello, I don't know if this is the corrrect forum for the problem I have, but perhaps you can help me. I've been using the audacity software together with my Behringer UFO202 audio transfer apparatus for digitalizing my old Lps. After several transfers with no problem, I suddenly obtained instead of reproducing the Lp transferred, a strong noise and no music. The blue line that appears when the lp is played is wide and steady (On both channels). The turntable sounds fine, but the supposedly transferred music has not been transferred and only a strong noise is heard. Anyway, in order to provisionally solve the problem, I closed Audacity, open it again and it works fine. I also changed USB connection. After some transfers, the problem appears again What can be wrong?

Most likely is a bad USB lead or USB connection. Can you change the USB lead or is it hardwied into your UFO202? You're not using a USB hub are you?

Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate it very much. Yes, the USB is attached to the UFO202. I connect the UFO202 directly to the CPU. My CPU is brand new. I purchased it three days ago. Pardon my ignorance but what is a "US Hub"? Again, thanks a lot.

Regards,

Eduardo

A USB hub is just a gadget which has lots of USB input ports and one USB output to connect to a computer that doesn't have enough USB ports. Audacity doesn't like to play with such devices usually.

Hello, Thanks again for your reply. No, my UFO202 is not connected to a USB Hub (thanks for lesson!!!) And you are right, sometime ago I had one of those hubs and I had lots of problems with it so now my new CPU has over 6 USB connecting places so the Hub is not necessary. At this moment I'm digitalizing a record and no problems. I did change the position to a frontal USB and it seems it works much better.
And another question. I digitalized a Mono recording dating back to 1956. I naturally changed "preferences" in the Audacity to "mono" It was perfectly digitalized but upon passing to WAV and trying to burn an ordinary CD it says that it is not possible. I don't remember what sentence I could see but I just couldn't burn it. So, I just digitalized it all over again but this time in Stereo. My project was sucessfully completed with a mono recording in two channels. What was my mistake with my first try using Mono preference? Thanks again.

Hello Waxcylinder, sorry to bother you but the wide blue line and extreme noise continues erractically, what else can I do?? I have changed USB ports with no luck. I did not have this problem with my old 7 year old CPU which I trade for a more modern one hoping to get better results but this new problem with my new PC has been most annoying as I'm sure you understand me. Sorry for bothering you but I have nowhere else to ask for help!!!

Thanks

There isn't a recording device listed in the audacity preferences for some reason.

Looking way back in this topic, I wrote:
steve wrote:Do you know which version of Windows?

If you look in the Windows Control Panel in the "Sounds" section there should be some indication of what sort of sound card you have.
The important thing is that there is both a recording and a playback device available for Audacity.

See here for some guidance with the Windows Control Panel: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel
You replied:

"It says no audio devices are installed."

If Windows does not recognise any sound card, then there will be no sound from your computer other than the whirring of the fans and drives.
Please re-check the Windows Control Panel.

My sound works fine. No problem except when I try to record with Audacity. It just gives me the error message.
