Are you still using the ancient Audacity 1.2.6? All development and bug fixing on the 1.2 series was abandoned years ago.
Audacity 1.3.12 for Windows has the manual included (in the "Help" menu).

Nope, as I mentioned I did install the latest and greatest at your recommendation earlier. And downloaded the manual, which I see wasn't needed!
