Memory usage

I use Audacity on an HP laptop running Windows XP Pro. After a cold boot the physical memory used (without running any actual programs) is about 800MB. After using Audacity to edit almost any given file, typically a wma file of about 42MB, exporting it and then closing Audacity, the physical memory used shows as something around 300MB, a difference of about 500MB.
I do not see any difference in the performance of the laptop. What services/procedures does Audacity terminate when closing? I am using Microsoft's Process Explorer to determine the memory used so it may not be accurate, being a Microsoft product and all. Inasmuch as the services closed by Audacity don't seem to affect the performance, I'd like to delete them from the start-up going in.
Thanks for any help. As you can tell, this is not a big deal.
