Don't hear what I'm importing to Audacity

Post by tboneman » Sat Feb 05, 2011 1:34 am

This is my first time out with Audacity. Lots to learn. Win XP Pro.
I was able to hook up my cassette player to the Line In on my computer. I started the tape and saw the meters (on the right) deflecting in Audacity. The program was hearing music. The problem is, I don't hear any music. I want/need to be able to hear the playback from the cassette player while it's feeding into Line In.

This particular tape has two albums on it. I won't know when to stop the tape and Audacity unless I can hear what's going on. I read the Help files but nothing jumped out at me.

The other problem is, after recording about an hour and a half of imported music from the cassette player, I saved the project in the Audacity native format. But when I tried to open it, I got nothing. I saw individual audio cuts in Windows Explorer but, I couldn't listen to them

Appreciate some help. Thanks.

The simplest way is to enable "software playthrough" at Edit > Preferences: Audio I/O (it's in this FAQ).

File > Export if you want to save that project to an audio file you can play in other programs.

To re-open the project in Audacity only, open the project in Audacity from File > Recent Files, or open the .aup file from Explorer.

Again, it's in the FAQs.
