Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Presonus Firebox & Simultaneous Recording Of Multiple Inputs

Post by mefer » Fri Feb 04, 2011 7:50 am

Hello All--

I cannot seem to find a recent answer to this problem. If it has been resolved elsewhere, please forgive me in advance.

I have a PreSonus Firebox. I run Audacity 1.2.6 on a Windows 64 bit Vista system. I can record one input at a time no problem. However, I would like to record more than one input at a time on different tracks. The Firebox has a total of four inputs but I can only use one input at a time with Audacity. This has become frustrating as I would like to try multiple miking of my band. At a minimum, I would like to do this:

1. Place two microphones, through two different channels, for recording of drums, bass and guitar. The mics should hopefully ideally be two separate tracks. If I can get this to work, I may go so far as to try and record drums and bass on one track and guitar on another track. Again, however, I would want both to record at the same time.
2. Once the above is recorded, overlay vocals with a new track.

As it stands right now, we are having to record all of the instruments together and then overlay the vocals. Such is not ideal and I should be able to getter a better sound if I can increase my mic input up to at least two. Even better would be if I could use all four inputs through Audacity but that might be a bit too much to ask.

Can someone please help? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Matt

You will almost certainly want to upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12....

http://audacityteam.org/download/

Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched or repaired. Audacity 1.3.12 has much better and more tools.

Multi-channel recording in Audacity can be an adventure. Typically, multi-channel devices are grouped in stereo pairs and Audacity will only recognize one pair at a time.

We beat this up in this thread:
