Turning an mp3 into multiple files

Post by nicole7194 » Sun Jan 30, 2011 10:51 pm

I have an audiobook that is in mp3 format, but i would like to turn it into several files by chapter. Can I use audacity to edit it into several smaller files?

You could force it to do that, yes, but you probably shouldn't. Re-editing MP3 files always causes sound damage unless you use a dedicated MP3 editor. And now we're all going to wait until I find the editor we always recommend. I didn't put a bookmark there. Google while I'm looking.

You can't do special effects or fancy cross-fading or other tools, but if all you want to do is whack up an MP3 into pieces, there are software packages to do that.

"MP3Split" can split MP3 files without decoding them, so there is no loss in sound quality.
It's also a free, open source program. http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net/mp3splt_page/home.php
