Help With Drop Down List
This may sound simple but i am new to Audacity.
I want to record a sound through my sound card.
I cant seem to figure out how to get the mono/stereo in the drop down list.
I have set the amount of channels to 2 in the prefrences but i dont know how
Check attatchment for pic.

Yes, I have set it so that it records in stereo, but how do I set it to record through the soundcard?MDOC wrote:Check this dropdown list.

Use the "line in" jack on your computer. Set it as the default in the sound app in the control panel. The line in jack takes stereo channels.

Sorry, my screenshot is from Vista. But I think there is something similar in the XP control panel, no?

You select your sound card in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O"
This is also where you select whether to record 1 (mono) track or 2 (stereo) tracks.
The actual recording source (Microphone, Line-in, Stereo Mix, etc.) are selected using the Windows Mixer. (loudpeaker icon near the clock, bottom right of screen).
