Help with mp3s

Post by hbb » Tue Jul 08, 2008 9:05 pm

I have been using Audacity for quite some time on my old computer and exporting to mp3s worked fine. I've recently gotten a new computer, and I installed Audacity onto it, I've located Lame_enc.dll, but whenever I try to export to an mp3 I get an error message that says: 'Unable to open target file for writing' I've tried going to the prefrence menu and locating Lame_enc.dll again, infact several times with different versions, but it still doesn't work no matter what I do! Please help!

Check that you are writing the file to a writeable location (not a CD drive) and that you are using a valid file name. For example, try Exporting a track as "test.mp3" (without the quotes) to your "My Documents" folder.

I had a similar problem, and it was linked to a special character- a question mark- in the label I had entered for one of the tracks. It exported all the tracks before it got to that one, and then stopped trying to export. Once I removed the "?" it worked fine. I would suggest limiting any use of special characters in track labels. Hope this helps.

Thanks to the entire Audacity team- it's great, not perfect, but one of the best utilities out there!
