original video+audio format: xvid+mp3
extracted audio format: 128 kbps 44 KHz 2-channel stereo mp3 (same as source)
extracted audio content: evil laugh or speech with explosions and other low volume noise in background
preferred output format: midi as cellphone message alert tone
preferred output content: evil laugh or speech only
Is this possible with audacity 1.2.6? If it is, how do i do it? Thanks in advance.

Re: extract voice from audio ripped from video
It's not possible with any software. MIDI does not do speech. MIDI files just tell a synthesizer what notes to play (and a bit more, but not speech) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_In ... _Interface

What if I use mp3 format for output? I just found out my cellphone actually supports mp3 for message alert tones.

Re: extract voice from audio ripped from video
You can install the lame software package and then Audacity will be able to export MP3 music. What you can't do is unmix a mixed performance. You can't separate the voices from of a song, the violins from a symphony, or the drums from a jazz band.
