Hello Audacity,
I am currently trying to record from the internet but my Audacity program gives me the following message:
Audacity wrote:Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.
I need to record some sound from the internet for my videos and numerous projects. Is there any way to do this without getting the message? On my old computer (a Windows Vista Home Premium) it worked fine (I still have a Windows Vista Home Premium).
Thanks in advance,

It depends what the soundcard (and its associated drivers) on your new PC supports. On some computers this is labelled What-u-hear, though this differs. It seems that many soundcards in new PCs have had this ability "removed" presumably to inhibit recording of copyrighted material ....
From postings on the forum this seems to particularly afflict Dell computers - though my brand new Dell laptop Vostro worked perfectly at recording streaming audio.
See this page from the Wiki for more detailed help:

Another way round it is to purchase an external USB soundcard and loop back the output to the inputs - but that involves more cost. This way worked for me on my older Dell desktop.
