Now before one of the moderators sees this and throws the banhammer because I've just reposted the usual reboot problem, this isn't usual. After googling around for about half an hour and doing the various fixes (mainly a sound driver update which, I'll admit, was useful), audacity still causes my computer to have a fatal error (Blue screen of death). As I quickly discovered "Page fault in nonpaged area" translates to "Everything is wrong", so I received no answers to this specific error while googling. Neither, for that matter, did I find anything beyond "update your sound drivers" from the audacity forums/website/whatever. I have updated them, and the problem persists. Audacity starts up once, and if I close it and try to reload it (regardless of how much time elapsed) it gives me said BSOD.
I use Windows 2000 (the lastest Service Pack makes it more stable and faster than XP, so don't go bitching about my OS) and my sound card is a realtek AC97. I've experienced no other problems with memory/CPU/etc, and the problem seems specifically to be with the driver. However in spite of updates, it still is not resolved. Is audacity simply incompatible with my sound card?

Re: Audacity reboot problem
IIRC from your original posting you were using 1.2.x.
I would try downloading and installing 1.3.5 from the Audacity site: http://audacityteam.org/. I can't guarantee it will work for you - but it's worth a try.
Don't be put off by the Beta labelling - 1.3.x is fairly advanced in its cycle now and is emminently stable for everyday use.

Re: Audacity reboot problem
I second that - I've been working with each 1.3.x release without a hitch. A minor display bug (of almost no consequence) in 1.3.5 has been my only observation to date.waxcylinder wrote:Don't be put off by the Beta labelling

Re: Audacity reboot problem
I'm afraid installing that version doesn't work either. It produces the same error, and has forced me to seek alternatives (although I would prefer audacity).
