tag or mark

as music is recording or i am listening to a selection is there a way to place a mark or a tag on the time ?
that is i listen to a recorded track in audacity then as the music is playing i want to press a key that marks that place in the track

That's two keys. They said they wanted one key.

That key sequence is a shortcut for Project > Add Label At Selection.

ok yes Koz two keys, sorry :D

but .... it's actually CTRL+B which is sthe shortcut for add label at selection - CTRL+M is designed for placing a mark at the current point at the current point during recording (or payback) - but there's not really much difference as a mark is just an empty label ...
