Plug in the USB first. Make sure that Windows has recognised it.
When that is done, open Audacity.
Look in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" and select the USB device as the Recording input, and your sound card as the playback device.

I'm sorry but the program will not recognise the unit. Is it possible to make changes in the Windows XP?

Does Windows recognise it? If it is not recognised by Windows, then Audacity can not use it.
