If Error 2 were a person...

I would choke him or her to death!! I'm sorry, but I have been having so many problems with this Error (and have subsequently erased many .aud files BECAUSE of it)...Does anyone have a list of its common causes?

We had to format my computer recently and we CAREFULLY moved my project folder from one drive to another. All of the _data and .aup.bac files are contained in that folder. We didn't rename anything or delete anything. All we did was move the folder. That's all!! So, can somebody tell me why all of my projects now have at least 3-4 Error 2 errors in them? What did we do wrong? What can we do to remedy the problem? I have read many of the posts about 'Error 2' (in fact I have one about it myself), so I know that the most common answer to this problem is, 'Your project is dust, man.' Okay, that's cool and all, but I'm sure there's a user out there that has had success in dealing with this insidious problem...Even if you haven't, if you have any constructive suggestions at all, they would be well received from this end...

Thanks in advance,

Chi <pulls hair out and runs towards the horizon>

I usually tell people you can't move projects at all.

An Audacity Project is an editing management environment--probably nothing you haven't heard already. It also consists of all your original sound clips in the show and in their original folders and directories. Miss one and the show's toast. If you got music clips from several different directories sprayed all over the machine, you basically can't move the project. Also, the project files have to exist on the same directory structure they started with on the original machine.

Can you say 'pain in the neck?'

You can move the 'show' by Exporting a WAV. You can push that single sound file to any machine you wish and play and edit that--but you won't have access to the original edit points. That's also the only way to email a show.

Thanks Koz...I'll make sure to not to move my Aud files again...But, I did end up 'fixing' my corrupted files in a way: I erased the sections of my project files that had 'Error 2's and then saved the files...After that, I re-recorded the erased sections, inserted them back into my project files in the appropriate places (my file is spoken word based so I can get away with doing this), and saved the project again. The Error 2 messages disappeared and I didn't have to start my projects from scratch (for the second time!)...
