Audacity will not record

In am recording vinyl onto audacity and converting to mp3 using a USB turntable. The program stopped picking up signals from records and so I changed USB ports. This started the system working but after a while it too stopped. Now will not work in any port. Program opens and responds in all ways as should but displays only a static line in the spectrum. Any hints?

Is there any way to try the turntable on another computer? Did you save the receipts?
Do you have any other USB devices you can try on your computer, like a thumb drive?
USB turntables are throw-away devices. Everybody knows that when the last record is transferred, the turntable is going in the trash. So they're not the best built turntables in the world.

you can always use the phones socket of your record player/cassette
and put a lead into the line in socket (usu blue ) at the back of your comp
get audacity up, press record and you are away !
