Mitch at LunarPages recommended Audacity to me, to solve some audio problems I have as a website designer for a non-profit opera for kids group.

I downloaded and installed the program successfully, but I find that while all the editing and effects functions work at first, they soon become unavailable (not highlighted on the pull down menus), and the program will not respond to C+X or other common commands either. Editing and saving become impossible, and I'm forced to shut the program down.

I'm using Vista, and am wondering if there's a patch or something?

Audacity 1.2 is really old software and is no longer being upgraded or patched. Try downloading and installing 1.3. You can load both on your computer as long as you don't run them at once.
