Mixer Levels Help for a Newbie

Post by londonstripe » Fri Jun 13, 2008 1:59 pm

Hi all,
Have tried to solve this issue via FAQs and Please Read Before Posting, but to no avail.
I'm trying to digitise some vinyl onto my laptop (running XP) with the help of a Pro-Ject Phono Box II USB and a Linn Axis turntable.
Have recently downloaded this software and all is working fine, apart from the fact that I'm not able to adjust the recording levels with the microphone slider, leading to some distortion on recordings. The input bar next to this is greyed out.
I'm sure this is really easy to fix, but I've drawn a blank so far.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

It's most likely because Audacity has handed control to your USB device - and from looking at your device on t'interweb it looks as though it does not have a gain control to manage the signal. Some other similar devices on the market do have such a gain control. Look at the ART USBPhonoplus v2 for example: http://www.artproaudio.com/products.asp ... =13&id=128

I myself use a combination of phono preamp and USB soundcard - and both these devices have gain controls on.
