Is it possible with Audacity to record a new track of narration while listening to the already-established file of music it will run with?
I am using music (for choreography) which is very difficult to count. I need to record my voice counting this music while it plays. (I plan to burn CDs for the dancers to study.)
Right now this doesn't seem possible to me as I can't figure out how to hear the music in playback as I record my voice.

Re: Recording Over Existing File
Yes you can, although it can be a little more complicated if you are using a USB microphone.
I'll assume that you are using a conventional microphone.
In Audacity, go to "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" and select "play other tracks while recording new one". (do not select "software playthrough" as this will cause weird echo effects).

Steve,
Thank you so much. That worked beautifully.
